What Central Florida Taught Me 40 Years Later

by Eric English

I’ve lived in Central Florida for 40 years...

& it took me far too long to appreciate this.

So many people move to this city. I've noticed from meeting locals throughout the years, it tends to draw people in they just don't know why.

Others fly from all over the world—life savings in hand.

And for many years, I missed it.

As a kid, I took living in Orlando for granted. Disney was close but my brother and I couldn't stand waiting in long lines, sometimes for hours on end, for a thrill that lasted only a few minutes.

I didn't get it.

But people love it.

This place changes people. Literally.

In 2019, a friend moved his family from Tennessee to be close to Disney. That's when everything sank in.

His autistic son found healing at this place.

During their first visit, his life was changed and ever since then, he can't stop talking about it. So, they decided to move here for good.

He found healing here.

And so did the family.

This story has helped me relate more - and have fun - with my clients.

For them, Disney is the red dot on the map.

Some have invested in Airbnbs, others want to purchase within a short drive, and many others want to know if everything they've heard is true.

If you've lived in central Florida, especially Orlando, you probably know what I mean. It's a special place, and every year that passes I grow to appreciate it more and more.

I've learned to love what's in our backyard, not just for me...

but because of what it's done for the people I've met.
