Local Youth Sports - Miniletics
This is Alex, my barber in Orlando.
I’ve known him for 5 years, and he’s always impressed me with his confidence, ambition and character.
In 2024, he decided to start a youth sports program, Miniletics, for kids ages 7 and younger.
Miniletics teaches fundamentals of the game while focusing heavily on lifelong lessons like social skills, self-confidence and teamwork.
A passion he discovered early on through his parents' early childhood center.
He organized the program around his schedule at the barbershop, running Miniletics in the morning before he starts cutting hair.
Creating a startup without walking away from a steady income.
...an approach that’s not talked about enough.
He and his business partner eliminated risk, allowing them to start immediately without needing funding.
And now Miniletics is providing the next generation with a set of life skills designed around sports.
I’m 15 years younger than Alex, and it’s reminded me that humility can be an opening for new lessons.
• Older and younger generations have something to teach us.
• Challenge yourself to try something new or difficult.
• Sometimes, it’s better to just start without overthinking.
We've had so many incredible conversations over the years, and I love encouraging him by asking thoughtful questions and showing a true interest in what he’s building.
There are many places you can develop deep relationships, sure. But somehow I am not surprised, with this one...
it all started in a barber's chair. ✂
