Luxury Living on Lake Harris Chain Of Lakes

by Eric English

My client searched for 2 years before buying this lot -

and didn't even end up building anything.

This happens a lot in real estate,

and is more common than you may think.

I grew up on the Lake Harris Chain of Lakes, so when my client said she wanted a home for her family here, I totally got it.

The wildlife, ease of navigation between lakes, fishing, skiing and restaurants.

Like any realtor, I took her all over looking for the perfect lake home. It was over three years of negotiations, due diligence periods, and missing out on countless offers. Several checked all the boxes, but not worth the asking price.

The families I work with begin to envision the homes they fall in love with as their own. And when you lose out multiple times, it becomes overwhelming.

Anger, tears, and then, in this situation, a bit of peace in letting go.

She decided to stop the search.

Within a month, a lake lot became available.

It happened to be in one of her top neighborhoods.

She could design and build her dream home from the ground up. The design was award-winning… a custom home that stretched the width of the property setbacks, a pool and patio for sunsets, and a boathouse for all the lake toys.

About a year later, everything was ready for permitting.

But then things changed.

The estimated build was at least a year. A daunting timeline, that honestly ends up taking precedence in your life. (and all builders know what I mean).

For my client, this didn’t feel right after all.

The kids were getting older, and going back to our original plan of finding a built home on the lake was the best option.

Boating, family events, pool parties and cookouts started to feel like reality again.

In a few months, we found the one.

Anyone who's ever tried to build from the ground up knows it’s a grueling process. In the end, all of this led to her dream home anyway, and hey...

let someone else take the project on that lot!

It sold to a new owner 6 months later.

Real Estate is about flexibility and openness to new opportunity. Oftentimes, our so-called “plans” change, and instead of getting frustrated, best to remember the industry you signed up for- and are a part of.

This is when some of the best things happen.
